Well I'm buying a 88 TC parts car, good T-5 looking at taking it out,my question is how hard can this be I'm pretty cleaver and know I can do it. I guess I am trying to see just how hard it maybe and how long of down time I'm looking at,I guess I'm just looking for a little confidence building, also may have alot of parts up for sale
Thanks Machzman

There have been people with very little mechanical experience do the swap successfully. Haveing an extra set of hands for the heavy work makes sense. The manual weighs around 70-75, I don't know what the auto weighs but I think it's heavier. Be sure to support the back of the engine when the tranny is out so it doesn't drop down too much. There are lots of past posts on this.

You only need two tools in life; WD-40 and Duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should use WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use Duct Tape.

Yep, that'd be me too! I am almost done. Got the t5 in, pedals, shifter, drive shaft, etc. Now I am just waiting for my new column then i'll put it all back together. Had to replace steering column cause the key just spins and spins. lol

It is not that hard to do. Getting the auto tranny out was hard for me cause I didn't have a helper. An empty t5 is much lighter! [Image: smile.gif]. SO I just balanced it on a jack and slipped it into place. Pedals were a little tricky but check out stinger's site - lots of great tips there.

The best trick I found for installing the pedals was to pull the dash out using the steps from the heater core swap instructions. This made things fit in much easier, I didn't even have to slot any of the bolt holes.

I did run into problems with the wiring though. When I tried hooking up the clutch interlock, the engine would only start with the clutch pedal up. If I pushed it down it wouldn't crank, so I just unplugged it and put the splice back in. The pedals came from a '91 2.3l 'stang and went in my '88.

steve,

is that a small 2 wire connector that is normally jumped with the a4ld in? Just remove the jumper and hook it up to the clutch switch on my stang?

I have to find that yet. Someone on stangnet (i think) said that there was a jumper behind the radio they had to remove. I looked and didn't see anything. I guess, if worst comes to worst, I could use the 4 wire connector from the a4ld (nuet safety) and jump them.

Yah, it is the plug with the 2 wires. On my car it was clipped on the edge of the fuse panel. I had been looking all over for it, I kept missing it because it was in plain sight. The one that is under the radio is the wrong one, it screws up the information panel.
