ARP stud questions

I spoke to an ARP techie today about there 2.3L non undercut studs for the 4 banger. She told me since Im running above stock boost it is a good idea to torque to 85 ft/lbs instead of the recommended 80. This is with there moly lube of course. If your using straight oil then you could increase as well I would assume.

My question is while following proper torque sequence order what are good increments to follow? would it be 30/60/85? I dont know b/c this is how I did it before. I couldnt find anything about it online or in the directions. I was just curious if anybody else followed something similier.

The Ford manual uses two steps with the first increment at 50 to 60 lb. ft.

I like to use a 3 step and I don't have any great rational for it other than a lower difference between torqued and untorqued bolts and from one increment to the next. I did suggest three steps in the Tech Article on changing head gaskets.

I know ARP recommends higher torques if you use regular oil rather than their special lube, but I don't know what the actual spec is.

If I remember right ARP states 120ft/lbs for torque with motor oil.

Just use their moly lube and torque to their recomendations - it was 80ft-lbs on my aluminum head with undercut studs. FWIW, I went 20-40-60-80 for the same reason Pete did. So far so good.

Do you wait in between each torque?

Just tighten all in the proper order to the fisrt setpoint, then readjust you wrench for the second, and repeat. No waiting necessary.
