Anyone tried an IRCM box off a Taurus?

I've pulled two of these IRCM boxes off of a 91, and a 92 Taurus, and the fuel pump relay doesn't work on either- this could be a concidence, who knows.

Both boxes have "J" on the outside, and the Ford number starts with F1- (manuf. in 1991) My bird box p/n starts with E8 (1988)

The Ford house has one for 160 (jobber price), but lists for 240! Ouch! Should I keep trying to find another box at the j/y, or perhaps is their another model to try?

Taurus from that era used the same IRCM, as indicated by the J on the box. That is the only reason you can still buy them new...... if they were TC specific, they would be obsolete and you could never find a new one anywhere.

I cant believe that several random IRCMs all have a bad FP relay....... you may have some circuit problem not involving the IRCM. CHeck the IRCM connector for damaged / pushed out pins, etc.

WOW.. prices have really gone up.... I bought a brand new IRCM from my local Ford dealer a few years ago for $120.

Thanks Jeff; I read a thread that you wrote a while back- that's how I knew about the "J" business.

My box works without hesitation, I just have a credit at the j/y, and I'm trying to start a spare parts collection.

I guess I'll try another until I get one that works. The Taurus and the Sable are the only canidates? No other FoMoCo vehicles that ran the "J" code IRCM box?

I dont really know if any other Fords other than the Taurus / Sable use the J box. Maybe someone else will chime in here?
