Anyone need a custom body kit???

I recently acquired an '88 Turbo Coupe and saw that there are little to no kits for the TC. So I am taking it upon myself to design and fabricate new front and rear valances, side skirts, rear wing and possibly a hood and/or hood vents. I am a professional automotive design clay modeler and have been designing and fabricating show cars and prototypes for about 8 years, so these kits will be tastefully done. I will pull molds off the clay modeled bumpers, side skirts, etc. and make fiberglass parts to send out if I can generate enough interest. I can also do a couple different designs for the parts listed above and make seperate molds for each. If you have any design suggestions or other parts you would like to see produced, let me know. You can email me at [email protected] or respond to this posting...Thanks!!!

Very interesting, ive wanted to make my own but have had other priorities lately. I would suggest something very plain but simply take the existing body lines and extend a few inches lower. Make the car look lower to the ground but not look like a body kit just that the car extends lower than it does in stock form. I have already lowered the car but that being said the body still sits high. The frame rails and downpipe sit lower that the current bodyline so there is room to go lower and still be used for practical driving conditions.

FYI most people on here will not be interested in anything close to a "fast and furious" kit, the more suttle the better, just clean/smooth looking.

If you check the Showroom section for Nate K's car, or check my sig link to see my car, I think this style of bodykit is the best looking that was ever available for the 87-88TCs.

If I was designing it, though, I would do something different with the rear skirt section, and I plan to modify mine in the near future.

I'd prefer to have the rear section include a simple diffuser-style center section, and that's what I'm working on for mine.

I'm glad to see that someone is at least considering putting some effort into exterior enhancements again!

You might want to pm RDOG, since he's done some work on this as well...

Natmac3, I would agree on that as being the best looking kit for a TC. I've actually got an new/never installed kit in the storage shed I've contemplated laying up molds from. Unfortunatly, I don't have the TC specific front air dam, just the standard Tbird unit.

That looks good but honestly if one would be redesigned I think a kit that has less "flares" on it would be nicer, more of a smoother less 80's look in my opinion so that someone wouldnt be able to notice it as an add on kit.. just my opinion.

I agree, the kit shouldn't be over done like most aftermarket kits out there and shouldn't be underdone like the 80's style. If I were to design a new kit, would you guys or anyone you know, be interested in purchasing? I am going to start some renderings and will post the final design on this forum for review. If you guys have any other suggestions on what should be included in the kit, i.e. wing, hood vent inserts, etc. let me know.

I will definitely keep you guys posted on the design progress. I'm going to do 3 designs so you can vote on your favorite. I also posted this in another discussion, to give you an idea on the costs: I can say that the cost for the front and rear valances with side skirts would be between $750-$950, depending on how much design work goes into it. That is a rough ballpark, seeing as I haven't started the project. If I can generate enough interest then I will consider lowering the cost altogether. There could also be added costs if you need fender flares, a wing or other parts.
