My 87TC has over 150,000 miles on it and the clutch has never been changed yet (starting to get some clutch chatter noise too). The car is not a daily driver but mostly sits under wraps in the garge. My dilemma is that I do not have the time, facility, or expertise to try and tackle this job. I want to put in an aftermarket clutch and pressure plate (whatever is the best brand recommendation) and have all the other necessary parts replaced which would include resurfacing the flywheel. What I am looking for is someone who would be willing to take this job on sometime after the first of the year and would be within a reasonable driving distance of Cincinnati, Ohio. In your response (if I get any that is) pleae quote me a labor price so I can plan ahead. You can have the car for as long as it takes.

And one other thing too. The transmission doesn't downshift from 4th to 3rd while moving. Might as well have that taken care of too if possible.

Sounds like a tranny rebuild is in order while it is out for the clutch replacement. [Image: frown.gif] [Image: frown.gif]

Gary- That 4 to 3 downshift sounds familiar. The one I had in the XR7 first after I converted it to 5spd developed that problem. I could get it into 3rd if I first took it toward 2nd, then it would downshift into 3rd. I hate to say it though..you will either need another tranny or rebuild the original like Jeff said.

Gary S I wished you lived a bit closer. I work on cars on the side and if the owner isn't in a hurry, VERY CHEAPLY! I built a shop just for this sort of thing http://www.elmnet.net/~kellyb/garage.htm
Hope you have luck in finding someone local.

Gary, I might be able to help you out after the first of the year. I have a spare tranny that has a bad 3rd gear synchro that I plan to have rebuilt in the near future. I also have acess to a lift at times. i also have a spare FW that I could get resurfaced. If we have all the parts ahead of time we could probably do it in 4-6 hours old farts time. Let's talk off line.
