Hello I'm new here. I picked up a 1988 tbird TC 5speed and I'm trying to figure out some stuff. First off the car does not idle right and have no idea why also some time I'll go to take off and it'll feel like I'm taking off in second and I'll floor it and it'll take awhile to get up and go. I have a engine light on and the code is for a Vehicle Speed Sensor. What would be the symptoms for that? Anyways thanks for all the info and replys

Are you sure the code is for the VSS? What was the code number? Did you run the complete code test (KOEO, CM, KOER)? VSS isnt used for much with the 5 speed except for dashpot function on decel, speedo speed signal and cruise control.
Please go into more detail on "does not idle right".

"Idle inconsistent" doesnt tell me much. hI assume you mean the idle speed changes constantly? Have you cleaned out and lubed the IAC? Does the cold high idle work properly? WHen it the idle unstable? WHen cold? when hot? during warmup? All the time?
Was the code 54 a KOEO, CM or KOER code? Does the speedometer work correctly?

The idle speed changes constantly. When its cold it idlesbrough and will will some times spike up and smooth out and go back down and start idling like crap again. After its warmed up the idle gets a little better. Ihaven't taken the IAC and cleaned or lubed it. It looks like the P.O. replaced it. The engine light code I got were KOEO and they are 54, 27. Sorry if I'm not explaining things well in not good at explaining symptoms.

Motorcraft IAC or aftermarket? ALL aftermarket IAC's are junk. Use ONLY Motorcraft.
