I finally put antique license plates on the 88. Since I only drive her on the weekends mostly (because where I work is dusty and dirty), it just made sense. The Police around here are so used to seeing antique plates running around, they do not even stop you at all. It costs $50 for 5 years, no inspection required and no stickers on the windshield!! Also, they only require one plate, so no front plate needed!

I think that's what kind I'll get for JR when I finally register him here - coming pretty quick now.
Thanks for the idea!

Yeah it's bout the same in VA, they do require two plates but no inspection, $50 nets a permanent registration... Since NC only has one plate and no windshield stickers, I'll probably only run the rear plate, got away with it for 10 years with the regular registration...
Only drawback here is the FUGLY yellow & blue plate, I think it's hideous... We do have a B&W plate but looks like it ought to be on a 1917 Model T...

I have considered an antique plate, but the rules are kind of restrictive. Only driven to car shows, parades or driven for repair purposes, etc.
I put maybe 2-3k miles per year on mine, but don't want to get in trouble driving it to work or just out for a cruise.

88 TC#3 parts car (just needed the header panel...bought the whole car, lol)

VA won't bother you for just crusin' around, but don't start driving it to work, though I know folkes who have(not me, I don't work)...
We're not supposed to drive it over 250 mi from home but that's largely ignored by the guys that go to Carlisle...

They really do not mess with you. If I take it to work I will just tell them My Mechanic is near there. Most cops do not mess with the antique plates. They figure you have insurance and no warrants they do not even bother as they have more important things to do. Also you are allowed to have test drives. Here in TX they do not have a mileage limit at all ( good thing too, as I have a VTCI International in Houston and most of us are driving down. It is not unusual any weekend here to see tons of antique plated cars driving around just cruising or going to shows, dinner or whatever.

JoeF, I figured you might want to know, since you are relatively new to the state.
