Anti Lock Brakes!

Hey.. My anti lock brake light has been on since I've gotten then car. The owner before that said they had no clue why it was on. Think maybe it is the sensors? or the ABS computer? I am not sure. I've got a backup ABS computer but haven't tried it yet. Let me know if any of you has had this problem.

Thanks,
Andrew

Get the codes out of the ABS computer and let us know. To get the codes:

To extract the ABS codes, find the ABS test connector in the trunk. It looks just like the EEC test connector under the hood. Hold it so the row of 4 terminals is on the top, and the 2 terminal row is on the bottom.
Jumper the bottom left terminal (black wire) to the second from the left in the top row (orange / white wire). Turn on the ignition. The ABS light will flash codes. Let us know the results. (originally posted by Jeff K)

By the way, I had an intermittent ABS light on my 88 TC. When I scanned for codes like Pete said, I got a code 21 (main valve or wiring problem). It turned out that there is a 2-wire plug on the part of the ABS module that faces the front of the car. For some reason the factory wiring was so ridiculously short that the plug was starting to pull out of the socket. I soldered some extra wire in to give it some slack and never saw that light again.

I saw an 88 TC in the junkyard and that wire was way too short as well, so maybe it's a common problem with these cars. Good luck, I hope you are able to fix your problem as cheaply as I was. [Image: wink.gif]

Check the relays. Also a common problem. I think $25-$30 each.

Hey,

Where is the test connector located in the trunk? I have not had time to look for it yet. Anyone know of the exact location for it?

Thanks,
Andrew

Remove the spare tire cover and it's back there around the strut tower (drivers side)...you'll find it; may have to dig for it. Looks just like the EEC one under the hood. I took out the spare also to get to it easier.
