Did you rough it up with 400 grit sandpaper and use primer before painting? Use high quality primer and paint? I repainted mine 20 years / 100K miles ago and it still looks as good as when I first painted it.

yep tried etch primer, phosphate primer, primer, and no primer. will give it one more shot before powder coating it. it does sit long stretches on a deltran charger.

I also painted mine satin black some years ago, no issues like yours.

I do “dress” it with Car Guys Plastic Restorer after washing the car and whilst I am treating the other black trim parts—windshield and rear window trim, rubber around windows, door handles, rubber/plastic “Turbo Coupe” black trim belt stripes on doors/fenders—and it helps the finish hold up, all over.

The Plastic Restorer is not just for plastic. I use it on the interior trim and anywhere that needs UV protection.

No I am not in any way affiliated with that business. Just a good tip.
