Jeff and Viper are both right. I tried to get a longer oil filter into position with the original oil cooler and it will not fit. It resulted in actually hitting the steering shaft so it was a no go.

Been a while since anyone posted about oil filter brands. I found this thread the most recent and the two below that are older:

I have always used the Motorcraft FL300.  I'm surprised that no one recommended K&N HP_2004 oil filter. I put a K&N air filter on the TC about 32 years ago and have oiled it once about 15 years ago.

I haven't used K&N oil filters on the TC, but have used them on my 88 Trans Am GTA (bought this for a winter car, until I found an amazing deal in 2013 on a Lincoln Mark VIII that already had a bit of rust on the body and figured I would use that for the winter car. Turns out to be a pretty sweet ride and now its both a winter & summer ride) TC has been stored for winter since 88.

Seems the Motocraft FL300 & Purolator Pure One are the top two from these three threads.

I just checked google user ratings:  4.8 - the most recent review is a person who recommend the FL300 that he uses on his Jeep Cherokee (you would think he would use a Chrysler part) I think I will stick with the FL300.

So with more years of experience what are your thoughts now on filters?

I'm partial to Wix but you can watch folks cut filters apart on YouTube and see the different construction (FRAM always seems to get bashed a lot for cheap construction). For my fun cars it really doesn't matter to me as they get super low miles put on them and I change the oil every year no matter what.

yes, I'm not a fan of fram. So you only change the oil in the Turbo once a year?

Once a year given the miles and type of driving. Every situation is different.

Gotcha, I used to do change it twice a year with 10w30 in spring/summer, then 5w30 for fall and winter storage. My TC gets very few miles per year as well.

I just use Motorcraft oil filter FL910S, it's nice and small and fills up faster on restarts due to side mount fiters always run dry after shutdown.

I thought the FL300 filters have an anti-drain back value to avoid draining?

It's a slow one, all the filters changes I've done over the years have all been dry. No biggie IMO, the motor has 224K miles and still shifting above 6K.
Really need a 90 degree oil filter adapter to maintain a full filter after shut down.
