been thru 2 starters and 2 starter solenoids and am f*kin frusterated. I hook up the solenoid (new) everything ok. then I hit the starter, things get hot and contacts weld shut. starter has been replaced, starter and battery cables replaced. solenoid has been replaced. ignition switch has been replaced. ok what the hell is going on???
All Ford all the time, 4 stangs 1 lincoln 'vert and 1 turbo 'bird

If your getting the regular cheapy solenoids they will do that. On the stock car I had exactly the same thing happen, 3 solenoids in a row. Hook it all up and one crank and you could see on the bottom that it was welded shut. Then went and bought a Borg-Warner brand solenoid and no problems ever.

I second the good solenoid; Jeff K says to use only Fomoco or NAPA.

ok update, engine turns free, but you could hear teeth hitting starter so it may be a shim issue. as far as cheap solenoids, I use the same one on all my cars (I have 5 stangs and 3 other fords) and never had a problem till now. I work at advance auto parts, so thats where the parts come from. I may try to pull the starter to see if it's defective, it may just be a starter shim issue dragging and welding things shut
