Hi all. Just found this forum and I am excited to join. In 1990 I bought my first "newish" car. A 1985 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe for 5000.00. This was a big step as I was coming from a 1976 Chevette!

This was an amazing car, and I had this cars for years through my late teens and early 20's.

In 1992, my engine was blowing out black smoke and the turbo was shot. I knew of a wrecked 1988 turbo coupe at a local junk yard with major rear damage. I picked it up for 700.00. A real steal! I pulled the engine and trans and installed with the intercooler. Painted the hood with the scoops and all! It was great and an amazing learning experience at a young age. I know every inch of that car.

Recently I came across a 1985 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe same color same options as I had, and instantly I purchased this car and had it shipped to me from Illinois. The car is in relatively good shape, and now sits in my garage. I have two young boys and I'm attempting to teach them some basic auto mechanics in between Fortnite tournaments as this car is so simple to work on.

The best so far was with my younger son was when he sat in the seat and said "Why is it so comfortable and soft? Not like the hard seats in mommy's Range Rover!" It's really is amazing how things have changed, and can you believe a 85 Thunderbird is more comfortable than a 2019 Range Rover!

I can't wait to get the car registered and on the road to drive around a bit. Brings back great old memories of a vehicle of my younger years.

In 1994 I decided to upgrade and move to a 1993 leftover Thunderbird Super Coupe. A great car but it was never the same.

Looking forward to helping where I can and asking questions about part availability and everything else.

Rudy,
Welcome to the group! I am always amazed at how many of us have had these cars in the past, loved driving them, sold them, and then got another one at a later time, myself included. I also agree about the Super Coupes, my Aunt had a 90 SC while I had my 87 TC, nice car, but felt way different than my 87.
