I've read quite a bit on this and have a couple questions...

As far as grinding the bracket down... would a dremel work? If so what type of bit would one use?

There is mention that the alternator connections will be underneath due to the clocking... are they near where the grinding needs to be done or is there plenty of room where the wires connect?

Last question is on the wiring for the AMP gauge... I'm not clear on where the second of the two wires connect to the yellow shunt wire. One wire connects to the stock alternator power wire at the splice, the other to the yellow wire at the same end of the splice... this is where I'm not clear. Wouldn't that be the same as connecting the two wires at the same place as it's the same circuit?

I guess without seeing this yellow wire I can't picture what "near the same end that the alternator power wire is spliced in to" is referring to. Does one side of the splice head towards the cowl and the other towards the battery?

1.You might do it with a dremel if you can find a dremel sized aluminum cutter. Using a steel or cast iron carbide cutter will lead to constant cleaning as alum will gum them up. You need a cutter with wide set teeth. Using a dremel will be like using a teaspoon to move a sand dune. A die grinder would be quicker.

2. I don't remember having any problems with connection

3. I wired mine different as I didn't care about a non-function amp gauge.

Looking around for a die grinder... need an eletric one since no air compressor. I found some that look like a bigger dremel... just need to find out what will work and not cost to much.

Think any other options would work... like using a drill with some type of grinding wheel?

Grinding wheels (stone) will not work on alum. They just gum up and become useless. Cutters you can clean, not so with stones.

Look for an electric die grinder at harbor freight.
Not first rate but should least to get you through.
They might have alum cutters also.

I had very bad luck with the cheap Mikita knock off grinders on ebay. Useful tool life was measured in seconds, not hours. Save your money.

You could do it the painfully slow, insane way like I did and use a file and take the material off by hand Big Grin My wires ended up near the top, not on the bottom as described. Also, I opted to not run the wiring to the amp gauge, and just ran a 4 gauge wire with a fuse in-line to the battery.

Thanks for the replies... I'm debating getting the 95 amp with no modifications vs the 130 amp. Maybe I can find a rental...

Update: Well I finally decided to get an air compressor... sears had a decent one on sale for $129 ($40 off) with free shipping... got a die grinder kit so I'm all set.

Going with the 130 amp PA-performance alt. Debating on getting their power wire kit... the shortest is 30", but at least it has the fuse in it. (Lost one TC to an alternator fire in 96, the current one was ready to burst in flames just before I got the battery disconected!!!)

The wiring for the regulator do not interfere with the bracket. Only the alt case itself does.

Ok, quick question... I have the bracket almost done and ready to tackle the wiring. I will skip the amp gauge and just use the power wire I have from PA performance w/the inline fuse. Question is what to do with the existing wiring from the power connector? Just remove the plug and tape the wires off?
