Amp gauge...

I'm looking for the stock amp gauge wire. Mine for some reason was disconnected at the alternator. And there is a disconnected wire that goes like.... 3 inches out of the alternator harnass. It looks white with a black stripe on it. Anyways, we cannot find the same colored wire anywhere under the hood. We assume someone took it and cut it at the gauge itself. But I still want to know where to look for it, which bundle of wires, etc... and if white with a black stripe is the right color (cause it looked light green in one stop)

It's just that ever since we owned the car the amp gauge never moves so I can never know if the alternator is going (and it has)

1987 Turbo Coupe, 2.3L 4 cyl, 156,000 miles, maroon paint (chipping clear coat), and gray/black interior.

Wiring goes: alt output > huge splice with a bunch of fuse links to it > heavy gauge yellow wire about 4" long > another huge splice with a bunch of fuse links to it > batt terminal of solenoid. The yellow wire is the shunt wire for the amp gauge, and the amp gauge is fed from a wire at each end of the shunt wire. The amp gauge is really a low voltage voltmeter.... ohms law... more current thru shunt wire = more voltage drop across the shunt wire.
