i never new an alternator coudl; put out 17volts, and then drop dpown to 10 volts.
ok il expalin, if i first star tmy ca ri haveaorund 14 volts, good, then my radio come son, and fog lights, dropps a bit, then my headlights it dropps to about 12 volts, idling. ok now veyrhtign else is off, turn anything else on it drops to about 10 volts, now her ethe kick in the ass, driev dpownt hte road a bit tays at 12 volt,s maybe 13. stop at traffic light drops down to 11 volt,s then 10, and with the radio pogin with aogood bas hit down to 9. Now i had this alternaot rebulit by a local alternaot rebuilder my brother has had exremly sucessful tiems with, and so have i, but now it kills me, i just had it rebuilt maybe 4 months ago and its doing this all of a sudden. it woudlnt bug as much , but not beign able to see my healdight son the ground at noight when im at a treaffic and if th radio is on the lights dim with it, i eman cmon, i guess ford sahudltn have put thsi stupud mitisbishi alternaot on an american car!

*for the radio guys, i have a 760 watt sony ampo turned way down pushing a kicker 10 in sub, and trust me it snot loud, its just fil sthe soudn in so im not pushintg much draw withthis set up, cuz it just started doing this BS!*

When was it putting out 17V? That is WAY too high. If it puts out 17 V, either the regulator is bad, or there is a wiring problem in the voltage sensing circuit.

On my 86 Tbird 5.0, which is upgraded to a 130A 3G alt, my lights would dim slightly when I cranked up the 500 W stereo. One of those 1/2 Farad Lightning capacitors at the sub amp took care of that problem.

But it just started doign this, which really annoys me, ithought at first it was my cheapo gguae but lookign at my clock (LCD) you can tell it was gettin 17volts, , scary, i really ratehr not upgrade to a higher ampo alt, but is there a way i can put mayeb a smaller pully on the alternaor and crack up the RPM's of the alternator or wil it hurt it? it acts just like my dads mustang with underdrive pulleys on it, and i dotn have underdrive pulleys
