Aluminum Thermostat Housings

I have one of those nice machined aluminum thermostat housings for my car which I would really like to put one. However, here is my dilemma..........the heater hose outlet off the housing is tapped for a 1/2 inch heater hose outlet. The heater hose outlet that came with it is for a 1/2 hose. I don't feel real comfortable putting a 5/8 inch heater hose on a 1/2 inch fitting and trying to keep it from leaking by tightening down the hose clamps real tight. I would much prefer using a 5/8 inch heater hose outlet. Problem is that there is not enough "meat" in the housing to take the threaded hole out for a 5/8 inch thread. I was hoping that someone knew where one could purchase a heater hose outlet that has 1/2 threads to screw into the 1/2 inch hole in the housing and then have a 5/8 inch outlet on top to attach the heater hose to. If anybody knows a place where one can go to find such a fitting please let me know. I am stymied right now.
Thanks,
Gary Schweikert

Gary.... here is what I did: I took a 2 to 3 inch long piece of smaller dia. hose that fit on the small brass heater hose outlet but was 5/8" OD, and then put the stock 5/8" ID hose over the smaller hose, and clamped it. Been on the car that way for 1 1/2 to 2 years now, and is leak free. I dont remember the exact small hose thatI used..... just a piece of some hose I found in my junk box.... like a piece of tranny cooler hose or something like that.

Jeff's idea is a good one.

Otherwise you'll never get a 5/8 ID hose to clamp down tight over a 1/4 OD outlet.

Any reputable plumbing/hardware store will have brass hose-barb reducers. You may have to search for a 5/8" to 1/4" reducer.

Or, if the housing is tapped, use a 1/4" to 1/2" brass pipe-thread fitting and then use a 5/8" hose-barb to 1/2" pipe-thread adapter/fitting.

Ok, stupid me. Just measured the hole in the thermostat housing and its 1/2 inch, not a quarter. So now it becomes 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch. That may be easier to get or if nothing turns up, I do what Jeff suggested.
Thanks Everyone,

I got a 90* plastic fitting, at NAPA I think, that is 5/8 on one end and 1/2 on the other and then used the appropriate hose on each end
