Aluminum driveshaft

For the '86 TC guys. I replaced my driveshaft with an aluminum ds from a '94 Crown Vic. The CV aluminum driveshaft was cut down and balanced for the TC. Since the Crown Vic uses the larger 1330 u-joints I decided to replace both the tranny yoke and diff. yoke with 1330 units. The tranny yoke I bought new, about $70.00. The diff yoke I got from the Crown Vic along with the companion flange from same. I measured (and measured) the '86 TC driveshaft at 48 7/16" (contrary to many other posts I read). The Crown Vic companion flange and yoke is .115 longer than the TC flange and yoke. (All measurements are from u-joint centerlines.) I had the drive shaft cut to 48 3/8, sort of as a compromise.
While at it I replaced the differential pinion seal since I had to remove the companion flange. Then I got my surprise. The companion flange from the Crown Vic is for an 8.8 rear and the '86 TC is a 7.5. The Crown Vic pinion shaft is larger (I hope it's the same as the 8.8 rear I have in the garage) and does not fit the pinion shaft on the 7.5. So I got a 1310-1330 conversion u-joint and reinstalled the 7.5 flange and yoke.
It solved my vibration problem. I hope the Crown Vic companion flange will fit the 88 TC 8.8 rear I have in the garage and plan to install under the '86.
I also discovered the larger Crown Vic companion flange will not clear the weights on the pinion housing, so that got removed and was not reinstalled when I went back to the 7.5 flange.
Now that the vibration is gone I can hear a rumble from the rear end. I tried my best to get the pinion pre-load the same but maybe I messed that up, causing the rumble. Anyway, I'll ignore it until the 8.8 goes in.

Hmmmm..... Just so happens that ive had a 94 crown vic PI drive shaft laying around for the past year or so. About how much did it cost you to have it cut and balanced?

Just a little over $100.00.
Not relevant to the DS cost but I decided to go to 1330 yokes because coated shell u-joints should be used with aluminum to prevent galvanic corrosion. I couldn't find coated u-joints in the 1310-1330 conversion u-joints. Carquest had them in 1330 though.

is the d/s the same length for an 87-88 models as well?the newer 87-88 models already have 8.8 companion flanges so that should save me some money.what other cars use this aluminum d/s as well so i know what to be looking for as well.

Aerostars also have the aluminum DS. About the companion flange. The reason for the companion flange was to be able to use regular 1330 u-joints. 1330s have 1 1/16 cap diameters (same as 1310) but are wider across the cap ends. The wider u-joint requires a larger diameter yoke and thus a larger diameter companion flange. To use the 1330 also requires a trans wider trans. yoke.
You can use the aluminum DS with the stock TC yokes (the 88 still uses 1310 u-joints) by using conversion u-joints, 1310 in one axis and 1330 in the other axis.
However, DS vendors don't like recommending the conversion u-joints. I guess because they're weaker than a full 1330. The aluminum DS needs coated cap u-joints to prevent galvanic corrosion. I wasn't able to find coated conversion u-joints.
<edit>
Sorry, I almost overlooked your question about length. I'd say pull your DS and measure it. I've seen posts that say they are the same (manual) but also list the length as 48" instead of what I measured.
