Aluminum Driveshaft

Picked up an aluminum driveshaft at JY. My son had one made up for his 86 tc 5-spd.It made a world of difference.A lot smoother and quicker pickup. Don't know if it's because of being alum. or because it is completely balanced, or both. Tried the 180 on driveshaft, didn't notice any shakes or shimmy. Picked up another one for my 88 tc 5-spd. Will be trying it soon!

It costs me around $160.00 with tax. The alum. driveshaft was 55", the TC driveshaft are 52". They cut the alum. to size, then, they call it high speed balancing. If your universals are good they place them back in or you can choose new ones.

The Aerostar is the one I found. The shop told me it would need universals from a F150 ford truck to fit the TC. The Aerostar driveshaft is a little smaller in diameter then the TC. Nothing to worry about. But if you can find one from a 2WD ext. cab ford ranger, they are the same dia. as the TC. Also they use the same universals.Thats the one that my son found! Hope this helps.

My mistake, my son corrected me on what ranger. It's a 2WD long bed single cab ford ranger. Sorry for the wrong info, must of been a " blonde moment".

Will the Ranger one work with no modifications? Or does it still need to be shortened?

------------------
87 TC 5-speed Black, loaded. 17psi, G3 alternator, KB subs, Grant steering wheel, custom greasable swaybar bushings, K&N. Soon to have KB Trackit Axle brackets, Maximum Motorsports lower control arms, T-3, Saab intercooler, ranger roller cam Gen1 DSM BOV and rebuilt front suspension.

Unless you're the lead dog, the view never changes.

The ranger alum driveshaft is 55" as well as the aerostar. Yes, it will have to be cut. The TC driveshafts are 52", but you can use the TC universals or replace with new ones, your choice!

The JY we go to are U-PULL-IT type. The vans, trucks, and cars are usally in the early and mid 90's. The Aerostar I found was a 93 or 94. I don't know for sure if all Aerostars have alum. driveshafts. The ranger was a 94 2WD longbed.
