hello everyone. last night i started my car and noticed black smoke coming from under the hood. once fire was put out i noticed it was the altenator wire harness. ive been looking at some old post but am still lost. i have 3 wires in the back of the altenator but only 2 wires from the main harness. so my question is how do i rewire the altenator wires that are coming from the back of the altenator to the harness?, and also should i replace u inline fuseable wire.
2 wires coming from main harness are
orange and blue
black and either white or tan

ford had a problem with this design in the 80's, the pins in the conector that go to the alternator become loose and causes these fires or no charge issuse. You can buy new updated plugs ends at your local auto parts store, i was also told when you buy a replacement alterntor that the company wont warrenty it unless you change this plugs too, because they cause the voltage reguator to fail, due to the loose connention.
that third wire i believe is a dumby wire or two wires go in to one like a fuse link setup.

I just colored matched the wires and the one wire is a dead wire in the harness.
