Alt wiring opinion

Got a PA Performance 95A 3g alt, and the short wire kit with the 4gau wire. If I read the EVTM right, the stock output wire splits, with one going to all the links and feeding the car, and the other going to the POS terminal on the starter solenoid.
I can do an *OK* job soldering with small gauge wire.
Of course I don't want a fire, but my worry is that a crappy soldering job on that output wire per the tech article would be worse than leaving it as is and just adding the 4gauge short wire from the output post directly to the starter solenoid. I don't have a bumpin' stereo (just an aftermarket 250w) or NEON (hehe), so the stock wire should not see much more current than usual since the additional 4gauge wire will be a more desirable path back to the battery, right? Should I do my best to solder in a more beefy stock output wire in addition to adding the 4gauge PA short wire?

I installed that same alternator on my 88 over Eater weekend. I did just like you propose, only with a little different parts.

I used the stock wire to the fuseable link, and ran a #4 wire to the starter solenoid. I bought a 4' premade cable at Walmart, and a spare end. I was able to crimp it with a chisel, and solder it with a propane torch [Image: smile.gif]

Its worked just fine for me.

Sweet, thanks for the confidence Bob. Since I have the PA wire that's already got ring terminals on it I'll just add it in there and won't mess with the stock output wire or my crappy soldering skills.
