North American Turbocoupe Organization

For the past 14 years, the North American Turbocoupe Organization has participated in the All Ford Nationals Show that is held each year at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. This year's show will be held June 5th through June 7th, 2015. Although our participation was somewhat limited in the beginning, the participation grew until about the last 5 years which has seen a decline in the number of NATO members that were exhibiting their cars. Hopefully, we can turn that trend around this year. One contributing factor to that expectation is the fact that this year is the 60th Anniversary of the Thunderbird and Carlisle has made numerous additions to recognize that fact.
If you are not familiar with the All Ford Nationals Show it is a gathering of Ford enthusiasts on an international level and is considered the premier Ford Show in the United States. It draws cars from all over North America and some foreign countries too. It is held every year at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania which is located in southeastern Pennsylvania. This location makes it readily accessible to a majority of individuals who live on the East Coast and also to individuals who live in the Midwest. In the past we have had members attend that lived in Washington and California. At the show you will be able to find all types of Fords and Mercurys on display along with vendors and general parts suppliers. There are numerous activities and events held in conjunction with the show including ladies activities, seminars, a giveaway, a Saturday evening downtown parade, and special exhibits. Each year the number of participants at the All Ford Nationals increases, thus insuring that the show produces the greatest number and variety of Ford and Mercury vehicles collected in one place.
Although this is billed as a car show, judging is done by participants with no established criteria. Therefore, you will find cars in all stages of completion which means that NATO members are encouraged to bring their vehicles and display them on the Showfield regardless of their condition. Regardless of whether you have a beater, a daily driver, a work in progress, or a show car, you are encouraged to attend and show your car. The important part is to join in the fun and activities that accompany this event. There are established classes for 1983 through 1987 Turbocoupes stock and modified, 1988 Turbocoupes stock, and 1988 Turbocoupes modified.NATO has adopted this event as their major get together every year and a great time is had by all who attend. It is a great way to meet those individuals who supply answers to questions on the message board and give technical help, something which we have all needed at one time or another.
As I mentioned previously, NATO has adopted this event as their national get together for the year and all our general membership activities take place during the course of the show. For the convenience of our members, NATO provides a tent and chairs and tables for the show under which you can get out of the sun or rain and to rest and carry on conversations. Other activities include the following; breakfast and dinner graciously provided by Dan Sheehan and his wife Diana on Friday and Saturday, an early arrival get together on Thursday night, NATO awards and presentations on Saturday afternoon, a NATO get together on Friday night, and a general membership meeting on Friday night.
By the time you read this, the pre-registration drive will be well underway. Carlisle is offering an early bird registration sign up period in which you can save money by pre-registering early (that information is already posted on the message board). We are encouraging pre-registering early in the hopes that we can have a large turnout this year and reverse the attendance spiral from the previous years. Also, if we get 25 members register for the show we get the tent for free which means at the end of the year we can donate more money to charities that NATO supports. Recent surveys that have been done in the past have indicated that at least 75 per cent of the general membership resides within a day's drive of Carlisle so we should be able to supply a substantial number of vehicles for the show. Also, a large number of pre-registerations would improve the designated parking area on the Showfield which would keep us off the "hill" which is where you don't want to placed.
Since many individuals who come to the show need a place to stay, we have, as in previous years, been able to reserve a block of rooms at the Days Inn on Alexander Spring Road which is located on the good side of town with easy access to the Fairgrounds so you don't have to fight the traffic on Route 11. We have designated the Days Inn as "NATO Central" because this is where a majority of the membership stays during the show. Instructions on how to reserve a room are located on the message board but I would advise calling early because these rooms fill up fast.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the 2015 rendition of the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on June 5th through June 7th, 2015. Your attendance will be greatly appreciated
