It is finally time.....

My heater core has leaked a TINY bit for more than 3 years, just a bit of fog on the windshield, and a bit of "Ghost Fog" from the vents on humid days. Heat has always been blazing hot, with no real issues. This weekend it got a bit worse. The A/C condensation vent tube always dripped a bit of fluid, but now its dripping enough to cause smoke under the hood. SO.... this car is not being driven during the winter at all, so for the time being, I'm going to hook the heater hoses up to the AC so I can at least de-frost my windows, but its going to have to be replaced.

Along with my exhaust leak between the manifold and turbo ( requiring stud removal and re-surfacing of the manifold...) I not have a busted off Y pipe, just after the flange connection.

The funny thing is that since I'm still waiting on some money to come my way (from the accident earlier this year) and my Bronco 2 is too far gone for repair. I'm going to at minimum fix the exhaust leaks and bypass the heater core.....

How is everybody else doing?? LOL

I feel for you...I have the same heater core replacement coming this winter. I too, won't drive the car in the winter and I prolonged the heater core bipass until when I hit the A/C in July, I had my own "smoke screen" INSIDE the car.

Otherwise the 'Bird is flying near perfect. I'm up to 28.5 average on premium and when I drive for economy. BOOST is just too much fun not to play in, though!!! Smile

Thats about the millage I'm getting (according to the trip-minder) and aside from the leak between the turbo and manifold (causing sputtering on decel) the car is running strong.....

I DO need a cam in the near future, and I'm going to order the Boport 1.5 over the winter to take care of that.

ANything special about the Boport 1.5 that I should know? At some point (likely another winter project) I'll be pulling the valve cover to fix a pesky little leak and will check/clean the HLA's and inspect the cam. At 116K it should still look good but you never know...

Its about a 40 HP gain on an otherwise stock car from what I understand. Pulls good vac, and the powerband is from 3K to 6000??? Something like that. it also has a nice smooth idle, and is a Roller cam so it doesn't wear as fast. Since my slider is completely trashed, it would be a significant gain, since I'm sure I'm missing duration and lift on the stocker.

Having recently done the heater core change in my Bird I can say that it really isn`t that bad of job.
The biggest part is getting over the "going to have to do it" part.

Print out the instructions on the tech page and take your time and you will be fine.

I could have driven mine for longer before having to do the replacement as it was not steaming up but I could smell the antifreeze a bit.

BTW, If you can smell the antifreeze you are inhaling toxic fumes.

I also have to put a heater core in my bird before cold weather sets in... I dread the job.
Lord please help me to become the person my dog thinks I am.
