How meany people run with and don't run with an ACT sensor? I've been reading all over the board about why you should add the ACT sensor but then I read from the other half that the ACT sensor is pointless. Doesn't the ACT tell the computer the temp of the air after the incooler to increse HP and what is reason why the ACT is pointless?

The ACT is really not need for drivability.

You are correct, under certain LA series strategies you could get couple of more degrees of timing....if, if, if.

Dont worry about it, you would get more drivability from hooking up the VSS.

Yes it will. My 86XR7 doesnt have one....so I never worried/bother to think about that. You are correct though. If that check engine light is bothering you than all means.

So I did some resurce on the ACT and I found that the engine can run without the VAM, intercooler, and turbo with an ACT sensor witch makes me question the just a couple of more degrees of timing. Also does it matter if the VAT goes out if you have a ACT sensor pluged, because its still measuring air into the intake?

What are you getting at, if you don't mind me asking? If your car came equipped with an ACT, or you swapped in a setup that is supposed to use it, then why wouldn't you? Ford put it in there for a reason. If they didn't need it, they wouldn't have put it there.

Yes your vehicle may run without a VAM, intercooler, and turbo but it won't run well! I had to drive my '88 without a VAM for a day when it went bad (so bad that it ran better without it plugged in at all). What is the point though? It ran like crap without a VAM and I'm sure if the ACT didn't function as it should, it could create problems as well.

yeah that CEL is buggin me, and the pinpoint test I got from alldata says led me to the sensor needs to be replaced...but I replaced it already cause I cracked the plastic on it. Its from autozone, maybe its a dud?

The point is almost everyone Ive talked to clams the ACT ONLY adds a couple degrees, If it was ONLY a couple how does the engine run without have the stuff hooked up in it just because because it has the ACT in it? Ryan unlike you not all of are TCs are given an LA computer with all the sensors stock, your lucky when my vam went bad it didn't run at all. So when people do these LA swaps and don't hook up an ACT there losing alot of HP compaired to having one in. Thats what I'm trying to get at just what you said "If your car came equipped with an ACT, or you swapped in a setup that is supposed to use it, then why wouldn't you?"
