I'm in need of a new auto trans. The one that I had was so bad, the Ford Master Tech (who was fixing it for cheap on the side) said it wasn't worth it to fix. Can you throw any A4LD in our cars and just change the bell housing or does it have to be specific for our cars? I can see the ones for the explorers and rangers are numerous.. I can't find them around here specifically for a bird.

Bells are not removable, must be from a TC or 2.3 Stang to bolt up. Also the '87-'88 Stang trans has a different valve body than the TC slushbox.

So does that mean that I can just use a 2.3 stang trans or is it not compatible? I can also get a C3 out of a 1989 Merkur XR4ti. Is that a direct bolt on and will the fittings and everything be the same?
