ok so i have a 87' 5 speed tc with the usual rust on both shock towers pretty bad waiting for spring time to work on it but i was at work today and a guy that bought a used 88' v6 auto tbird from the dealer is gunna junk it. the car needs sway bar links, oil pan gasket, and a water pump.So my question is how hard would it be to swap the 2.3 and 5 speed into the 88' v6 auto?

Lots of stuff to do for that project... wiring harness, computer, rear end, body panels, interior etc. (if you want it be a "true" turbo coupe).

Less work if you just switch the motor, etc. I remember some post in the past about this. Use the search key up towards the top of this page.

Good luck!

ok i did some searching and found i topic for a 87 3.8 swap to a 88 tc... i'm just looking to get the 87 tc engine and driveline into the 88 and working.

1)does the rear end out of the 87 have to come out?

2)the dash in the 88 is digital so the dash in the 87 would have to be swapped over to right?

3)besides engine, wiring harness,computer,5speed,clutch petal assembly, anything else that needs to be swapped over to have a "fake" 88tc

Yes on the dash swap.

Hood if you want a functional intercooler, or go front mount

The V^ car probably has a 7.5 non TL rear axle with a ratio that isn't as good as the 8.8 w/3.55 ratio. The 7.5 will have drum brakes, I think, the 8.8 will be disk

Depends on if you want the TC suspension. That could entail a lot of work if you want a working programmable ride control.

Ive thought about this same swap alot and everytime i think about it it always ends at the same conclusion. Itll be alot of work no matter wat since either way your going to have to pull the entire harness you miswell get all of it an put everything out of the 87 over into the v6 car. By everything i mean suspension, rear axle,Front brakes,Full wiring including the prc, interior,Fuel system, cooling system also im not 100% sure but arent the K members different too? Im sure i forgot about a few more things but still thats already a big to do list. Only reason i considered the v6 swap was so i could lose alot of weight off my tc by getting a base model v6 with no goodies then remove all the goodies off the tc harness an also you could ditch the abs.

The V6 car should have 3.27 rear gear. That pretty close to the stock 3.55 thats in the TC. Man thats lots of work....period. If you really want a TC...keep your eye out for a car with a bad engine.

There might be a 3rd option. That would be to find an 87-88 TC roller and transfer what ever parts are needed. This could save you considerable $$ in time and labor. If you have good left over 1986 part, you could sell them off to defray the cost of the roller. It soulds like the V^ car only needs $100 in parts to fix. Could you fix it and sell it at profit?

Possibilities:

Car needs engine work:

I know of a $400 roller in AZ. I'm waiting for pics before I post an ad.
