Well, I just wanted to know if I needed and AC accesories belt if I don't even have the AC charged. Will there be any adverse effects if I keep it off? Or will it help my car out at all? Or will it just do nothing either way? Let me know. Thanks.

It wont hurt anything to not run it. Just one less thing in the way.
I have the belt off on my 87tc right now. And I have had it off for a while .
When and if you go to charge the ac system you might want to do something about turning the compressor pully over a little bit to circulate the oil in the compressor. Might not be a big deal if you don't but that is the only possible negative that comes to mind.

I removed my A/C years ago, along with the belt. If you don't use the A/C compressor, but just leave it spinning via the belt, that's fine. But no point really. Unless you plan on recharging the system later, and you don't want the compressor to freeze up for some reason by not turning at all.

Jeez, here's you guys takin' the A/C out, and here's me spending $400 CDN on a new condenser, lines, and refrigerant in my '88 5.0 'Bird! Without my A/C I'd be lost!

philS: Got any pics of that Austin mini van? I love those things... (and the mini pickups)

It should slightly help your performance since that's one less thing that the engine has to move.

Kev: That may be true, but if I wanted all-out performance I wouldn't have bought a 3500-lb car. Gimme luxury first, performance later.

I agree.... I would not drive a car without A/C. If I have A/C problems in any of may cars, that repair moves right tothe top of the repair list.

I know, sounds strange, but I was a student at the time, at school where it was hot for 3 weeks out of the year, so I just pulled out all the A/C stuff.

Sam, right now it's only the shell, but I just picked up a barely used LS-1 to go in the back with a 911 5-speed. The complete stock van, minus the engine and trans, is only 950 pounds [Image: laugh.gif]
