yes i was sticking rags into one tail pipe and my car would get super quiet...
our cars come from the factory with two different sized mufflers to reduce the drone of two equal pipes will make. so using two different mufflers they cancel some sound out...
so by just having one tail pipe will reduce the noise and drone.

I didn't realize that about the exhaust. Mine has been replaced and I believe the mufflers are the same. So I can just plug one pipe with a rag? I can try that on my way to work tomorrow.

Just a quick update, I replaced my FPR and it did not get rid of my idle CEL. I'll go over the VAM and TPS again as soon as I get a chance. My new engine mounts came in today but I will not have a chance to put them in until the weekend.

I replaced the passenger side engine mount and tranny mount today. The passenger side mount had definately collapsed.

Initial testing shows that I got rid of a ton of vibration. The engine seems so smooth now from idle to 5K. I have not pushed it higher than that. Before I would never go much beyond 3k because it felt like the car was buzzing so bad. I still seem to have a drone at 70mph/2500rpm though. Must be the exhaust thing.

I have also had the cricket chirp from the clutch when it is released. I read all of the posts, but I found that the plastic cup that goes over the end of the pushrod on the slave cylinder had split. I put a vaccum cap over the end so there would not be metal to metal contact between the pushrod and the clutch fork. It seems to have taken care of it, but I need to drive a little more before I declare it fixed.

Yup, I'm pretty sure the drone must be exhaust. I guess I'll just have to live with it. I'll change the driver's side mount when I get the chance but I don't think it'll help.
The cricket chirp in the clutch came back too. Oh well, guess I'll pull the tranny sometime and put in one of those release bearings that has the springs built into it...

Well, my clutch chirp is back. I guess I'll just put in that repair TO bearing.

Also, I found a few small holes in the welds in my exhaust, but nothing big. I do have 2 different size mufflers. The passenger side one is the short one, and the exhaust note on that side of the car is pretty loud, even at idle. I think I just may need to replace that muffler.

Just another update. I decided to replace the driver's side engine mount yesterday since I had the part already. The old one came out in 2 pieces! I'm having a rough idle issue right now so I don't yet know if it helped much...

I wanted to update this for future reference. The code 42 and rough idle were caused by high VAM voltage. I adjusted it and that problem is gone.
