My struts were going bad in my 88 so i decided to swap them out. since i couldn't find OEM i decided to disconnect the prc and go with regular struts. after a couple months my car started pulling to the right and instead of wasting hours trying to figure it out i took it up to my ford dealer. they called me telling me that my front struts were wrong and that i needed adjustable. is this correct? if it is then what adjustable struts should i go with?

The PRC adjustable struts are not available any longer... several people are using replacement non-adjustable ranging from Monroe to KYB to Tokico etc...

The strut being adjustable only would affect the ride, not the tracking assuming it is the correct type replacement.

You would probably want to take your car somewhere else Wink

BTW, did they offer you a replacement strut? The PRC adjustable struts have been gone for a long time, but you never know what could be laying around on some dealers shelf!

Ask them to explain. They probably just looked at the car and the shop manual and decided to punt with the excuse that your shocks are not original. Typical dealership crap. They don't want to figure out the problem just collect money. Check around for a good front end shop and go there.

im using kyb struts and shocks all around now. i figured might as well replace the whole system. the funny thing is and what they couldn't explain is why the right one is acting up but the left one is perfectly fine and operational. im convinced that its not the strut but something else ... maybe a ball joint i just dont know for sure. thanks for input and i guess my bird will just have to sit until i get some time to figure out exactly whats wrong.

Vegas is right. There are literally no "PRC" struts left, so your dealer couldn't get them even if they wanted to. If they actually did have a pair on their shelf (it could happen although the odds are real long) ask them for a price, after you have both hands on you wallet Big Grin

I agree that the problem is probably not the struts. Many people have used KYBs with out problem. Look for another cause like ball joint, tie rod or brake issues.

UPDATE: the dealership was wrong, as we all knew, i took it to another shop, one i trust more, and it was just a loose bolt on the bottom of the strut. and i feel like an idiot for not realizing this earlier, i just overlooked it, but my front rotors were shot so i had 'em turn them but now im looking for new rotors and pads all around. i was thinking about going with the summit racing set but looking for more input. thanks in advance for the input.

The stock brakes are pretty good Wink Try rockauto and use the 5% discount. The raybestos rotors are good, not completely sold on the raybestos pads though... They are 'louder' than the stock pads. They don't squeak or squeal, but you can hear them when the brakes are applied.

I always liked the EBC greenstuff pads. They rock! With those, Lincoln calipers and stock rotors, my car stops quite quickly.
All hail Project "Marauder" !
