88 TC Oil in Intake and Blowing Smoke

Hi all,
My 88 is blowing a large volume of smoke that smells of oil. I suspected a head gasket so I went to remove the valve cover and discovered that the intake starting after the throttle body valve is covered in fresh, wet oil and the header appears to have oil leaking from the turbo gasket.
This occurred after the wastegate stopped working and the swapped t3 turbo pushed up to over 20psi (whoops).
PCV valve perhaps? I was actually getting ready to replace the old one.

Easy to check the pcv. Take it off, hold it straight up & Down and try to blow air through the small end. If it passes ANY air, it's bad. Use only the correct Motorcraft valve; motorcraft EV127-A. Anything else may not block boost from the crankcase.

Is there any sign of oil in the throttle body or the plumbing before?

Yep. It's bad. I had a new ev127a I was planning on replacing it anyhow but they sent me an ev111 that is worse than the stock worn one.
There is only a couple specks in the back side of the throttle body but the entire intake throttle body to air filter is dry as a bone.

Sounds like a PCV problem to me, as the oil is only after the TB. Easy fix!

I agree. That's what I was thinking too. New pcv on order and ordered a catch can while I was at it to prevent a similar scenario. I'm just glad it wasn't the head gasket

Solved!

Problem was inhibited flow of the oil drain on the turbo.

Glad you got it fixed. Just out of curiosity what was causing the inhibited flow?

A decent sized kink in the oil return.
