My project is some maintenance on my stock 88 TC 5 speed (60K). It's time for a new timing belt so along with it we're accomplishing some PM. We're installing new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, water pump and PCV valve. (All Ford parts.) We're also replacing all vacuum hoses, heater hoses, radiator hoses, oil cooler hoses, coolant and the radiator. Already replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and FPR.
While we have the intercooler and associated other items out of the way is there anything else I should take a look at?

the metal coolant hoses are prone to leaking. if your going all out i might be wise to change them, but some of them are a pain in the a$$ to get to.
1988 5speed black every option. 3inch single turbo to tail(stinger), manual boost control. k&n cone walbro fuel pump
1986 xr4ti project car..... way to many mods to list.

Inspect the metal hoses at least. If they're not moving alot or chaffing then you're fine.
Don't forget the hoses under the intake, and make sure the barb on the lower is not obstructed, and the oil cooler hoses.
I'm an advocate of doing sensors too, especially if they're original. Many of them, like the coolant sensor on the lower intake, have to go really out of whack to throw a code. The dash coolant/oil sensors I don't bother with, unless the oil one is leaking.
Check your base timing, then set base idle, then check your TPS to be at the proper voltage and is smooth on the DMV from close to open (if you haven't replaced it). Clean out the breather with some carb cleaner.
Check your ball joints, shake the suspension etc. Maybe change the tranny and rear fluids.

Do the thermostat while you are there and the coolant hose to the turbo.

Great suggestions. The coolant pipes are solid. I'm going to order and replace the sensors too. We'll check the suspension and ball joints. Tranny fluid has been changed and we'll change the rear fluid too. It looks like a brake inspection and brake fluid flush is a good idea too.

Pete thanks for the thermostat suggestion. It's done. 86XR7 the k&n cone and and gillis is a great suggestion but will probably have to wait until later for the mods. I'm going to work with stinger on a 3 inch downpipe, high flow cat and out to duals first. Matt S we got the timing set per specification, TPS is smooth, no leaks so far, going to check the breather and clean it.
Does anyone have a part number, nomenclature or specification for the turbo coolant hose?

I've found the coolant hose part numbers using the search function.
Turbo coolant hose: Ford: E7SZ-8A506-A
These are NAPA's preformed 90* heater hoses.
These two styles will replace every heater hose on the car except the thinner formed hose that goes to the lower intake. These are cut to length.
NAPA part #s 9807 and 7296.
NAPA part #s 9807 and 7296.
7296 measures approx. 2 1/2" X 3 3/4"
9807 measures approx. 4 1/2" X 6 1/2"
U-Shaped cooling hose/intake
Part # 10304.
Also the radiator hoses:
Main radiator coolant hoses
NAPA upper – 8048
NAPA lower – 8009

I wonder if these part numbers are in the FAQ's.

I didn't see these part numbers in the FAQs. It would be helpful to have them there.
