88 TC, 13" brakes - new tie rods?

I saw the write up on coolcats about needing new tie rods when using 13" cobra brakes. I've had my 13" cobra brakes on my 88 TC and the car back to the ground, but never ran it or got it aligned... Now I'm wondering, do I need new tie rods? I had everything bolted up and all seemed fine, did I miss something?

The toe is going to be WAY off if you did not adjust anything.

You may or may not need to replace the tie rods. Using the tape measure method to check toe, take a mesasurement across the track on the front and the back of the front tires. Take the measurements at the same point on the tire (height and width-wise). Odds are you are very toed-in at the moment. Adjust the toe as close as you can get with the tape measure and see how much inner tie rod is still engaged in the outer. You will need to do this regardless as most likely anyway to even be able to get it to an alignment shop.

Yeah, I know the toe was MASSIVELY messed up! I adjusted it roughly, I just wanted to check after reading that, before I finished and got the car aligned... So I can use the TC parts?

it looks like he is saying that there might not be enough thread left on the inner rod to have the toe adjusted properly. I would just go with the new rods anyway. Id feel safer then having old rods on new brakes.

Also from what Ive seen and heard these cars love wearing out front tires quick so get it alligned soon even if you dont think it is bad.

Yes, sorry, this is what I meant! So, what part would I use to make sure I have enough thread, anyone have a clue?

We had a thread about that on the Fox board:

Took a little mixing-and-matching but eventually the dude figured it out. Hope that helps.

Hmmm, well thanks Eric, that may be helpful. I'll have to see how my threads end up. Like I said, I got everything bolted up and had the wheels straight no problem. I just don't know how much thread was threaded in and if it was enough (or even how much IS enough).

Are there no TC owners with 13's on here?
