88 Coupe Boost Question

Hi all, I am in the process of buying a 1988 TCoupe and I have a few questions. The car is all original with the exception of swapping out the Auto for a T5. She only has 52,100 miles and is absolutely beutiful. My question is, do I need to get an ECM out of an 88 with a factory T5 to get the full boost in all gears or can I program this one? If I need to find a factory ECM, does anyone know the number so I can verify it is an 88 model.

Oh yeah, first post of many for me!!

Thanks
Scott

Welcome to the board. You don't need a manual ECM for the car to run well. You could just get a manual boost control
valve to get around several limitations of the factory system. See boostvalve.com for a reasonable priced boost valve with reliability and great product support.

If yo want a new ECM, the LA_ (LA2 or LA3)series for 87-77 are the most desirable. However, some of the same limitations apply and a manual boost valve is still a very desirable cure.

Thanks for the input, this is my first turbo car and I haven't got it figured out yet. I am coming from a 93 Mustang pushing 350hp at the wheels so this will be a change. I had an 85 5.0 TBird back in my younger days and absolutely loved it. I ran across this one and I couldn't pass it up!

Thanks

The boost limit is due to the size of one of the orifices in the turbo fittings... Even with a Gillis valve you won't see more than 12psi using the automatic fittings...

Turbo Coupe 50 can you explain in detail what you mean by the automatic fittings? Is this something I need/can change?

Thanks
