88 alternator question *oddball*!

OK, I have bits from an old engine I'm using on my TR7 project.

The alternator is a Mitsu 3g small case with a single 3 wire plug labeled I,S, and A. It has a B terminal for the BL/OR battery wire.

My car has a voltmeter and an IGN idiot light.

I think I want to connect the "I" wire to the idiot light, send the heavy "B" wire to the solenoid/battery + terminal, the yellow "A" wire to the harness at the battery + to see the always hot 12v, and also tie the the "S" wire to it?

I can't find this specific alternator described anywhere even after hours of web searching. All I can find is the double connector 3G version, or the 2G stuff.

Can anyone shed more light on this for me?

S is the stator wire and would usually be connected from the regulator S terminal to the alternator S terminal. It may be connected internally. Don't connect it to anything but the stator terminal on the alternator, if there is one. The other connections are correct.

Thank, Don

Another guy told me that the S wire shows up in the 88 Electrical manual as being attached to shielding. and not terminated anywhere.

I am a little confused right now, and unless I can get an internal diagram on this alternator I'm going to use something else.

Thanks Pete. This is a great site and resource!

The internal diagram shows the S and I terminals connected internally and the S being a shield wire as Don said. It doesn't match up too well with what I'm trying to do.

At this point I'm going to use a different alternator. I don't want to waste time fabbing a new harness and finding this won't work.
