Nope. 83-86 cougars are the only ones w/ 2.3T. I believe I read that at Eric's coolcats site. So, as long as what I read was indeed correct...sadly only 83-86's were turbo [Image: frown.gif] Later

Actually there was no turbocharged Cougar for 1983 or an XR-7 model either. It was the first time in the Cougar's history that there wasn't an XR-7 model available.
The turbocharged Cougar XR-7 was a three year model only from 1984-86

Production totals for the three years of turbocharged XR-7's were:

1984 - 6,171
1985 - 7,860
1986 - 6,504

When Mercury dropped the turbo 2.3L for the 5.0L V8 in '87 the sales of the XR-7 more than doubled over the previous year.

1987 - 14,957
1988 - 14,488

I guess Mercury figured the 5.0 V8 was more in line with the tastes of their typical buyers. It's a shame because I drove an 88 V8 Cougar, and it was a DOG. They aren't too potent in 150hp form.

T-Birds/Cougars sold better overall in 87-88 because they were restyled quite a bit (especially the Cougar), so it's hard to tell if the V8 helped the XR7 that much, or if it was more appearance.

Did you know that Ford put a smaller throttle body on the V-8 birds and cougars than what is on the TC? Ford really choked those engines bad. Another one of those what were they thinking? items. Fortunately it is an easy fix! [Image: smile.gif]

the upper and lower intake is also different. though, some E7 heads would wake one up also. [Image: biggrin.gif]

86 turbo coupe (it's fun beating a honda...with something twice it's size!)
86 SVO (it's amazing what people can screw up)
90 mustang GT (project scratch and dent)

...so you have a V8...isn't that cute...
