Good spring to all, it sure is a nice Sunday in Michigan.
I just picked up a set of hood hinges for free and the owner indicated they are from a 1988 Turbo Coupe. I plan on installing these on my 1986 Turbo Coupe in order to eliminate the hood prop rod. Before I start the installation I have a couple of questions:
1. Can anyone please confirm the part numbers for me? The driver side is stamped E7SB-16801-AE, dated 9 29 86 and the passenger side appears to E7SB-16??2-AE, dated 9 20 86. The passenger side is not as clearly marked. They have a coil spring on them.
Also,
2. Any issues, procedures, comments or recommendations to install them on my 1986 Turbo Coupe?
My long term plan is to install an 87-88 Turbo Hood as soon as I find one in good shape.
Thank you in advance.

Don't know about the numbers but they sure look like the hinges on my 87 complete with that round coil spring.

You will also need the correct seals that go around the hinges. The ones on your '86 will not fit quite right.

Pete, those are the same numbers in the parts book.

If this helps...you could also keep your stock hood hinges on, and bolt the spring assemblies from a Mark VII onto your hinges. Those cars used the 1983-86 hinges also, but the spring part just bolts on...very slick. That way you don't have to mess with alignments and whatnot, at least for now.

I thank all of you for the valuable input.
Pete D. & tps87turbo, I checked with a friend at Ford and he indicated the part number I gave him was the production number for the 87 t-bird and was used by the Ohio Assembly Plant to order directly from the supplier. The E8S"Z"-16796-7 A & B part numbers are for Ford Parts and Service to order, this is indicated by the "Z" in the part number. Also the "E8" indicates these are for the 88 model year, "E7" is for 87. He also indicated there was a part number change for the 88 bird, must have been a design change.
Mr. T - Are the correct seals from the 87 - 88 birds or is there another seal I should be aware of?
EricCoolCats, I like your idea about the Mark VII bolt on springs, do you know what model year(s) I should look for? Do you think these still could be ordered from a dealership?
Please advise.
Thank you again.

Yes, the correct seals are from an '87-'88. Careful removing them from the donor car as there is a thin area of the seal that can easily tear.
