86 tc not starting

Hey guys,
I just picked up a an 86 turbo coupe from a friend of mine. It sat for about 6 years and it's not currently running. We tried to start it and it would not start so I towed it home and I have been working on it a little bit since. I siphoned out what gas I could and added 5gal of fresh gas with sea foam....this did not help anything. The car just turns over and does not catch at all. So I sprayed starting fluid into the throttle body and tried again...it caught momentarily and the shut down, so I assumed I have a fuel problem. So I pulled the fuel filter off of the frame rail and and changed it, before I hooked the lines back up I turned the ignition on and it pumped a bunch of fuel out, so the fuel pump does at least kinda work. Then I checked the fuel pressure on the rail, and I am not getting anything. Then I check the fuel pressure at the valve that is on the fire wall, and I only get 5 psi. The car has an aftermarket walboro fuel pump in it and an areomotive FPR. I was going to go out and start messing with the FPR to see if I can get any more pressure. Any advice?

*also something else that I have noticed is that the fuel pump does not pump at all until just before the ignition is turned all the way over. I am used to cars that prime the fuel pump when the key is switched to the "on" position before it meets resistance when trying to crank. Is this normal or do I need to look at the fuel pump relay? Thanks for any help.

I would start by replacing the FPR with a factory unit.... could be bad. Can't say much more now as I'm headed out to get some much needed dinner!

Oh - and the fuel pump should prime when the key is switched from off to the run position. Could be ignition faulty ignition switch (not uncommon).

See the two fuel related articles in the left column in the Tech articles; http://turbotbird.com/techinfo/techarticles.html
The fuel pump article may help. If the car sat 6 years, anyplace in the fuel system could be gummed up

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I read both tech articals and I printed them out to start troubleshooting.

I would like to get one thing clear though. What is the "run" position for the ignition? The only time the fuel pump is coming on is when I turn the key and it meets resistance...then I turn it a little bit more just before it calls for the starter to kick and the fuel pump turns on for about two seconds. It does not turn on before then. It does not turn on when the key is just in the (what I am calling) "on" position. Now that I know where the ECC port is I am hoping to make some headway.

"on" is the position just before "crank engine"
"Run" is the position the switch returns to after the engine starts.
"on" and "run" are essentially the same. The pump should run about 2-3 seconds in the "on" position to prime the system up to proper fuel pressure.

So assuming my fuel pump is not priming in the "run" position, should I be looking at the ECC circut? What would cause it not to prime in the run position, but it will prime just before the starter kicks? Does something else come online at that point?

If you turned the key to just before it "meets resistance" and the pump runs for 2 sec, you have the key in the RUN position and the pump is being powered up for its prime cycle (you said you heard it run). Put a fuel pressure gauge on the fitting on the rail, and turn the key RUN/OFF/RUN a few times until the pressure stabilizes. Should be around 39 psi, and not drop off more than about 5 psi in a few minutes. If this is OK, the fuel system is fine to at least start the engine.

I have not been able to work on it anymore so I cannot give much more info. But my pump will run, I'm just not convinced it runs when it should. I have to turn my key until I meet resistance then go a little bit further before the pump will kick on. It does not kick on in the plain "on" position.
