The PE is considered the best because the 85.5-86 SVOs made the most HP. It will work but you need to check to see if any re pinning is necessary

The PE was a plug & play in an 86 with the exception of the Premium fuel switch. That only required the grounding of 1 wire for premium fuel setting.
I found good info when I did mine switch. I chose the PE because of the ease of install.
Be prepared to pay around $ 200. for a PE if you find one.

I'm under the impression the PE requires the large VAM also? Can someone confirm or deny!

OK..little more help,,,,after spending hundreds on a SDS system for a stocker mustang 5.0,,,found out later that I could have just increased fuel pressure,,,lock down timing and pulled the module out of the distibutor that connected it to the computer so it couldnt move around and picked up nearly as much as spending $1200 for the SDS,,,,=I know this is a different critter where at one point dont need nearly as much fuel and then under higher boost conditions may need alot of fuel,,BUT is it possible to get nearly the same out of just turning up the pressure???

I think you may want to do a search on LA3 swap. Or, read http://www.mikewalsted.com/tbird_LA3.html .

Im guessing with his explaination, the air coming in isnt restricted and Im guessing that air flow is better to the engine forcing it thru the VAM

When I said plug and play on the PE I was referring to the wires. It would still need the large VAM & 35 # injectors. No changes to the pin out, which is what I was scared of! Just the Premium fuel switch to deal with.
