85 TC Cooling Fan

My 85 TC has burned out engine temperature sensors and/or cooling fan relays since it was new (typical lifetime when it was my daily driver - about 6-9 months). The response from my local Ford dealer at the time was "they all do that". Which seems to be nonsense from what I've read over the years on these message boards. I've read the Tech Article on installing a manual switch for the cooling fan, but the 85 has only a single fan instead of the duals used on later models and described in the article. I'd like to add a manual switch, but need some guidance on making the mod with a single fan.

BTW, hope everyone has a great time at Carlisle. Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.
