As I recall the vent window is secured with three screws on the top front of the door frame. If the screws were replaced with rivets, yes, you would have to drill them out.

Wow, that sucks. I know you can remove the whole vent window assembly easily by removing the door panel and popping out a few bolts. That's what I'd recommend doing first. Now from there...I cannot for the life of me remember where I read it, but I do recall that the window pivot mechanism has a spring at the bottom that is under extremely high pressure. It was not recommended to mess with that spring. Removing the top rivet (in your photo) would probably cause more havoc and possibly prevent the whole thing from ever working properly again. Maybe a glass repair shop would be able to help you more. If I dig up any more info I'll pass it on here.

Like I said, I can't see your pics so can you give me a description of the window and the rivet locations you are talking about. Are you taking it out to replace the glass? This is a swing out window with a regulator that you turn a knob to swing out? I saw on your blog that you needed glass for a vent window. If the frame is OK you can put in new glass without removing the frame from the car. Clean out the old rubber, run a bead of butyl rubber, as used on windshields, in the frame and insert the glass, let it set for 24 hrs and trim off the excess with a razor blade.
