83-88 model cougar question

i seen today in some ones yard(its seems like it has not been running) It was a mercury cougar. i was checking to see if it was a turbo one.I notice that it was a columm shift so i was like n/m.Then i notice XRT on the door panel on a factory decal.Does anyboy know about this or the people who have this car was just having fun.

The pre 87 XR7 cars were all 2.3T powered. In 87-88 the XR7 became more or less an optional trim package, and the 2.3T was replaced by the 155 HP 5.0 SO V8.

All 1984-1988 XR-7 models came with buckets & full console. So if you see a column shift car, it's not an XR-7.

Probably the easiest way to spot an '84-'86 XR-7 Turbo Cougar in a wrecking yard is to look at the window trim. All XR-7's recieved charcoal painted trim, if it has bright window trim it's not an XR-7.

BTW, there were no XR-7's for 1983.

Sounds like someone was playing with badges. Maybe it was an XR4Ti badge or decal that was modified.
