in a drag, and i know some people here have to have done this, who would come out on top. i have had more than a few people tell me they smoked a V-8, now i wanna hear some stories. if u wanna brag, fel free, i am just trying to figure out what to expect. my best friend has got a 88 5.0 GT, my other best friend has a 96 Thunderbird LX, with the 4.6. my other best friend has a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (supercharged). i woul really hate to think that even with such a bad ass car, all of my friends could still smoke me. somebody give me some good news.

It depends almost entirely on what mods you have done to your car (and, in turn, how stock your friends' cars are). In stock form, the TC would lose in a drag race to all the cars you mentioned, except maybe the 4.6L tbird. It's therefore not a clear cut decision on whether or not "car A is faster than car B". But for a brief example, I've got a few mods done to my car (check out my sig) and stayed even with my friend's 89 gt (with exhaust, 4.10 rear gears, underdrive pulleys, and an intake) in a street race (I do NOT advocate street racing though.... [Image: wink.gif])up through 1st and 2nd gear. I also beat my friend's 97 tbird (with exhaust & intake) by about 4 carlengths in a similar street race.
For comparative purposes, 5.0's *usually* run low 15's stock, gtp's run low-mid 15's, and both the tc and the 4.6 tbird run low 16's. Everything changes when you crank up the boost, though [Image: smile.gif]

good, that 97 TBird was the main one i wanted to smoke. that is the friend that sold me his TC. he didn't know what he had, and now that i got it and are restoring it, he hates himself. i wanna smoke the fire out of him, and if i did, it would make all 8 months of work worth it. as for my friends GTP, i didn't figure i would be able to hang with it. i talked shit about that car ever since he got it (it not front wheel drive), till he got on it one day. it straight caught a wheel for about 100 foot, only stopping for the stop sign. that car flies, ridiculously fast. as far as mods, i have no cat, flow exhaust, and i freshly rebuilt engine with mods that haven't been modified yet. basically, i just want verification that there is power there for me when i need it.

my mom has a stock 1999 3.8 88 olds.. gave a tc a run till about 90 supercharged i dont know.. get a gillis valve and a few other mods K&N and maybe a few other things and youll have a good shot at all these cars.. you will blow the 4.6 up anyways in my opinion stock. the 5.0 like he mentioned relys on how many mods he has.. these cars are fast.. i have a stock(for now) supercoupe tbird.. i can still out run a TC with just a few mods but its pretty even till about middle 3rd.. Good luck on the car wish i had one..

I don't see how so many people with stock TCs are "blowing away" 5.0s. In good tune, *with a good driver and traction*, most stock 5-speed 5.0s can run mid-high 14s. The numbers are not in your favor to beat the Mustang or GTP, but once either of you starts doing mods, all bets are off [Image: smile.gif] The 4.6 TBird should be slower than your TC, but on the highway your car should really pull away.
A stock TC isn't really a "bad ass car" in terms of straight line acceleration. It can be made into quite a bad ass car though and no one would be the wiser [Image: wink.gif]

I never dragged my car at the track but on the street I do blow away some 5.0ls, but its about 3/8 a mile after we take off that I pass him, I need to be about 85-95 mph to get really fast, that when I blow them away. I raced some kid that was tailgating me one day so i let him pass puled up next to him when the first light at 2 lanes, rev her up, spun the tires a lil to get his attention, told him lets go. He took of up in smoke I sat there spinning started to grip he was about 10-15ft in front, then at about 85 I felt like a power band kick in and I start catching up then passed him. I just waved four fingers for 4 cylinder and he waved his one finger for he was pissed. I think my car will be in the high 15's at the track, but I still need to learn how to race.
