within the week Im going to order Bob elbow and header.

Looking at his elbow it is just a straight piece of tubing, how did the guys with the elbow attach it to the rest of the exhuast?

I was thinking of just making a flange and expanding the pipe so It could bolt onto my stinger DP.

Any ideas
Brian

I'll explain it more extensively when i talk to you on the phone or when I see you but heres some of the basics:

When I first installed the 3"elbow I cut the top of Stinger's DP off (where its crushed down to retain the flange) so that his DP basically looks just like two 45* pipes welded together and 3"'s on both sides. With having this done I found some 3" collector flanges and welded one flange to the bottom of Bob's elbow and the other flange to the one side of stinger's DP and bolted the flanges together running a gasket in between.

I did not like this setup because it was prone to lots of leaks due to having a gasket and all the vibration and being bolted together.

So last time it came apart the 3" flanges got cut off and I got a 3" ID-ID sleeve and welded the F'ers right together and have my exhaust welded from the elbow back to the tailpipe.

Please hold the laughter because I already know that when any of it has to come down it must be cut Smile I'll find a better way to have it connected and able to taken apart in 2 places somewhere

Im thinking of a hanger and V band clamp maybe.

I dont want to weld it together, so if i can get a clamp on the elbow Then I will do that as well.

yea i think welding a vband to the top of the DP and bottom of the elbow would be a good idea in your case, if I wasnt in such a rush to do it last time I would have done that.

Next time I cut my exhaust and take it down i might Vband 2 or 3 different sections so it is easily taken apart

I was originally going to use a torctite clamp to attach a downpipe to my elbow from Bob. I ended up ordering Eric Strickland's Down pipe off of Bob's site. It's flared to fit over Bob's elbow with an exhaust clamp. Not the cleanest welds I've ever seen but with some grinding I cleaned it up and I think the fit will be pretty good. Eric's good to deal with too.

I use 3 sets of 3" V bands in my exhaust. One at the turbo elbow and another just after the downpipe goes horizontal so I can take out the section blocking access to the bottom of the turbo. I then use another before the hop over the rear axle.
I use the "stackbreakers" (3" v band and flanges) from airflow diesel.

sO I can hack the end off my DP and install a V band clamp. Will this hold the weight of the exhuast? Or is it agood idea to install a clamp near the CAT?

hmm i'll have to do some thinking about that because since mine is all welded, when i took apart the car and took the turbo out, as soon as i unbolted the elbow from the turbo, it just dropped because of the weight, so it just hangs down now unless i put some wood under it and prop it up.

if you want to meet me down my shop one day you can feel the weight of the exhaust if it will help you decide what you need to do, I dont really have that much care about it because it has been working for me so far and i havent had any leaks between the elbow and turbo, i dont know how well Vband clamps seal to hold all that weight though so I'm not sure.

Its always a good idea to have a hanger at the mid pipe area. Been meaning to make a unboltable hanger for my exhaust forever but just too lazy to do it.
