4 eyed HID setup

alright.. first, my plan.. since my white bird is now 4 eyed and i have some wiring to do, i need some help before i get started..

my plan is to run my outter lights as my low beams.. for my highs, i'd like to have all 4 illuminated.. i just ordered 2 'single beam' HID kits to power the lights.. i still have to order the housings, possibly next week..

anyway, my problem.. with my car being an 87, the low beam wire loses power when the high beams are switched on.. me and BJL chatted about it for a brief moment and he suggested an earlier headlight switch.. but after some thinking on the subject, i thought to myself that the multi-function switch (turn signal switch) is what controls the high/low beam switch.. am i correct in my theory, that i would have to change the multi-function switch, not the headlight switch in the dash?

do all 4 lights illuminate for the high beams on a 4 eyed bird? this really should have been my first question.. i've never seen a 4 eyed bird with it's high beams on, so i'm unsure

and would the 86- mutli-function mount to my column without issues? and are the plugs the same? if i have to, i will grab a plug from a 4 eyed car and pin it with my wiring to make it work

last question.. WTH did i get myself into?

All 4 lights work in hi beam, but the low beam bulb is a dual filament. In low, 1 filament is lit the other isnt on outer low beam light. In hi, the other filament in the lo beam (outer light)is lit and the other filament goes out, hi beam filament in low beam light is wired in parallel with the inner hi beam single filament bulbs.

Lights are switch lo to hi via the MSF, Power to the headlights to the MFS comes from the light switch. MFS are the same for all Fox Tbirds.

Should be able to build a simple logic circuit with a 2 input NAND gate IC and a relay or 2, or possibly with a few diodes and relays to do what you want to do.

I am no expert, but from what I have read while doing my lights is that most HID kits ,especially from ebay, are cheap junk. And HID lights should only be placed into housings that were designed for HIDs, otherwise you get very poor lighting and lots of glare for oncoming traffic.

I can't answer the question on the four eye part, never had one. Shoot I have yet to see a four eye TC in person!

I dont know if it matters to you or not, but putting HIDs in a housing not designed for them (like ours) is against the law in all 50 states.

they have a higher dollar option with the housings i'm using and the complete HID kit.. i'm just going the cheaper route and buying separate.. the housings with HID kit are $175.. 2 housings, 2 balasts.. $350 total (plus shipping) for everything i'd need.. money i'll have into it by splitting, $215 shipped to my door

I found this to be a good read on HIDs. Every HID kit I looked at before what I finally ordered was nothing more than HID bulbs shoved into halogen housings. Just want you to make sure what you are ordering is what are looking for.

thanks, i've been following your threads here and on FTCF.. while i like them for the composite 87-88 buckets, i don't think i could use them on the front of my (now) 4 eyed bird.. a buddy of mine has the HID kit i ordered and the output is great.. over on FTCF, someone used the housings i'm getting with standard H4 bulbs and the outcome was magnificent.. so the HID's with the diamond cut housings should be blinding, just like yours

yours will be blinding, tbirdx3's arnt, cuz it focused correctly for hid's

with my hid's and factory buckets i adjusted the lights down to make them not as blinding.

yeah, i'm definitely going to have to point the outters down a bit.. the inners are a different story, because i'll have to flick my high's off for oncoming traffic anyway lol
