255/40's on my '86?

I'm tempted to drive down to L.A. and pick these up! The only thing that scares me is the tire size - 255/40 x 17. I spoke with turbo83coupe and he said he had no rubbing issues with 235/45's. These are a little shorter but alot wider! Maybe if I ran 1/4" spacers and rolled the fenders. Maybe even steering rack limiters. What'dya you guys think?

You certainly don't need a spacer. With a 12mm offset and 4.95 backspace, 8" bead width, almost all the extra width is being pushed out already, a little over 3/4" on the rims. With that wide a tire the section width might push it a little farther.

I did a quick google search and didn't find a review of these tires. But they sure do look mean.

If you go with them, let us know if there's any fender rub.

I also took a look at a number of different tire specs and all recommended 8.5" width rim as a minimum. There tires are a little wide for an 8" rim. I'd go 245/45 and you'd also have your rolling radius practically the same as the originals for an '86.

Good info, thanks Robert! I've checked into those tires before. They're made by Goodyear but most Goodyear dealers never heard of them! They seem to be a chinese knockoff that Goodyear lent their name to. I should call 'em and see if they can substitute 245/45 for the 255's.

Anybody making a road trip from L.A. to the Bay Area, I'll give ya $60 if you want to haul them up here for me!

the only place you would even have problems with rubbing is in the front. I have my quad shocks removed so there is no problem in the back of mine. I would be scarred of that in the front. It would most likely rub. I put 1/4" spacers on mine w/ 235-45's (and the rear to even it out..) and it was fine then. Rubbing maybe on the inside while going slow and the wheel cut the whole way. It should work in the long run but with spacers possibly. ...my $.02...

FYI: I bought a set of wheels from them and they were great to deal with. I bought a set for my 99 mustang. The service was great and they let me pic them up. There shipping cost is fairly reasonable, and with gas prices the way they are, thats just enough to go one way. LOL
