Fellow TC'ers

Earlier this summer I was at my old high school.
The tech school had a 1986 TC donated by ford in 1987 for turbo replacement training. This car was in cherry shape the last time I saw it.....around 1995 when I liberated the mint "Turbo" shift knob for my then 1987TC. Anyways the car has been left outside for along time with the windows down and is in terrible shape.

Little did I realize that car had a moonroof. Looks factory to me. I always thought nobody had every seen a factory moonroof in the 1986 Tbird/Cougar, just the 87's and up. I have a new car book from 1986 that states the moonroof being an option. The new car book was printed in April 1986.

Anyways I snapped a couple of pictures. Looks legit to me. But I have never owned a 87-88 Tbird with a moonroof. Its a moderately optioned car. Moonroof being the big option. The car has just over 500 miles on it. Still has the original Goodyears on it....WOW She was built in January 1986.

Interesting...it does indeed look factory. You didn't happen to get a photo of the radiator tag, did you? That would probably be the definitive answer, as it would have MOON stamped on it. Either that, or the build sheet from underneath the passenger seat would help.

My records indicate a start date for the power moonroof option as 3-3-86, at least on the Cougar. I have never seen one nor heard of one. But as records go, anything is possible. It may have been Turbo Coupe only, and it may have started earlier for the Thunderbird.

It's a shame about that car too...you can't rescue it? I mean, for the novelty alone it's worth having.

My silver 86 had a moonroof. It was a aftermarket dealer install from American Sunroof Corporation.
ASC.

I had them fix my sealant, and replace the bad switch with a newer version.

So Mr. T. has motivated me to see if the rare car still exists.........it does. Not sure what that mean for the NATO community. But the Roof code "G" which is visable on the door jam sticker proves its a factory moonroof car.

Mr. T. Informed me that this more than likely was a prototype car, hense why it was donated to my highschool....and it still exists.

Pretty dang neat if you has me.

I really don't see what's so sad about that car. From what I can see, the fender, doors, and rockers have a whole hell-of-a lot less rust then my car.
