Thank you. I'm pretty sure it's the pressure regulator. Circled in this picture....

The pulse damper is there to prevent the "water hammer" effect a the injectors open / close (all 4 fire at the same time). Many have successfully run without a pulse damper with no noticable effects. I doubt you will find a new pulse damper anywhere. Best you will be able to do is parts wanted 2.3T message boards or Ebay.

Sir you can get a GM in tank Pulsator from a Blazer and install it in the gas tank. It will go on the fuel pump and then hook to the hard pipe of the tank adapter. I have run a few without the pulsator but it actually is needed. I do understand that the part is obsolete. You may want to convert to a late model fuel rail and re-pipe the system for an 87-88 design. Your coupe is an early one and is of a lower HP engine than the later models. It has no IC and if memory serves mr the HP is 155. So you have some hard work ahead of you to make it a pavement pounder. But its still a Coupe and it will probably be fun to do it.I think the lower and upper intake is slightly different. And the exhaust manifold is extreamly restrictive. If you want some snappy HP i would start buying some 87-88 parts if you want to build on a budget. Your injectors ans vam are also the small units. Well Good luck on your project Sir

I intend to get the car back on the road and see how it holds up to normal driving for awhile.

Later I do plan to turn this into a strip car. I'll be racing it in a street stock class at the local 1/4 miles drag strip. I know I'll want to buy some upgrade parts for it, but I'm very new to these cars and I have no idea what parts will interchange with later models. I have no idea what type of aftermarket turbo can be added. No idea what kind of IC to get for it.

I basically know noting about performance upgrades for this car. I am going to leave the turbo 4-cylinder engine in the car. I know the heads could use a flow job because they are pretty tame in stock form. I think there's a cam and injectors that can be purchased and still run the stock computer.

For now, I just want to get it running again and start driving it. The speed upgrades will come.

I really don't even know where to begin with modifications. I'm not familiar with these engines and turbos at all. I don't want to put the cart before the horse. No sense buying a big cam and injectors if the stock turbo is the limiting factor. No sense buying exhaust if the heads are still restricted. I really need to do some research and come up with a step-by-step plan to slowly increase the performance. But it must be done in an orderly fashion. I'm very anal and I won't just start slapping parts on it and HOPING they work. Much research needs to be done before this car will ever get anywhere close to being a "pavement pounder"

I agree with getting it running right and road worthy first. See this article for the basic beginnings of hop up.

Ok seems like i should explain. Number one you will have to get the engine working properly. Sounds like you need a Pulsator. Yours is obsolete as far as i know. So you will have to find a late model injector rail or an aftermarket one to replace yours or eliminate it completely. So with that said thats number one problem. Number 2 you will have to do a leak down test and compression test. Then you will have to evaluate the running condition of the engine once running. So logically you should address the fuel delivery first. Once the engine is running and you evaluate the clutch tranny rear axle etc you can decide on MODS. If you want to start at the beginning the exhaust manifold if stock is the biggest restriction in the system. Then you will need an inter cooler. No matter where you start or how anal you are the early engines are way down on HP and it all depends on how much money you want to spend and how fast you want it to be. If its a track only car you may want to start at the beginning and work your way UP. Its a heavy car with a small motor with low hp and a limited amount of torque. With that said good luck. By the way if memory serves me that car has a 7.5 in the tail?????
