The car is 27 years old, that could be 174k. I would look at the shifter and other ware items in the interior.

I would do a compression test to see what is going on. If the compression is pretty even per cylnder. If you can get her running good. It will be a nice cruzer. Smile

Your car has a two pump set up, one in the tank and a second inline pump. Here are a couple fuel related article that may help in your diagnosis:

and

Have you checked for spark at the plugs?
Make sure the cam is turning when it cranks -pull out the plug on the front cam cover and observe the cam pulley when the engine is cranked. If it doesn't turn, the belt is broken or teeth are stripped off. Not a big deal to repair.

wouldn't be surprised if the high pressure pump went bad, happened to mine after it sat for awhile

It has plenty of spark, so I'm assuming the cam and belt/chain are good.

Is this a rubber band engine? With a cam BELT and not a chain?

Is this a zero clearance engine? Belt or chain breaks = head shot to hell?

Thanks for the links Pete.

Good point.

I'll post some pics this afternoon. I gotta run out with the family and do our weekly shopping right now.

From my perspective, the car really does have 79k miles. The shifter numbers aren't worn off. Foot pedals don't appear overly worn. Carpet on driver side isn't worn out. Seats not worn through. Steering wheel not overly worn.

But you guys might spot something I am not looking for. I'll get some close-up pics posted this afternoon.

It's a belt driven cam and belts are cheap. The recommended change interval is 60K miles. There is an article on the process and lots of past posts with info; http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/CamTi...t%20Up.htm

It's a non-interference engine. No piston to valve contact with stock lift camshafts.

Some closer pics of the interior.

I've got fuel leaking someplace. The entire intake is full of fuel and I can hear a sizzling/bubbling sound under the hood. I don't know if it's an injector seal or the fuel rail. Something is leaking a LOT of fuel.

It's leaked so much fuel that the intake is full and the fuel is leaking out onto the ground now. I popped the hood and was shocked by the fuel smell.

I'm trying to upload a video to photobucket, but it's not going well. Either slow speed today or photobucket is on the fritz again.

The leak is coming from the injectors. It's either leaking where the injectors fit into the rail or it's leaking where the injectors seat into the manifold near the head.

I started looking for a valve to relieve the fuel pressure in the rail and lines.

I found a shrader valve near the firewall , just above the windshield wiper motor, and tried to relieve the pressure in the fuel system. Either thats not the place to dump the fuel system pressure, or there's something very wrong. It squirted fuel out, at very high pressure, for a solid 2 minutes before I gave up. I'm thinking this must be the spot where you would hook up a gauge to measure fuel pressure during tuning.

its not the injectors .... most likely its the fuel pressure regulator that has gone bad. its on the fuel rail towards the front and has a vaccum line from the intake to it.... a replacement is cheap enough and they are the same ones the 5.0s use... you need to pull the plugs and the main coil wire off and get the excess fuel out so you dont hydrolock the engine....actually unplug the electrical connection to the coil so you dont start a fire..... youll need an oil change afterwards too..

The injector O'rings need replaced. If you put new injectors in they will come with new O'rings. When installing the injectors use a lubricant on the O'rings, I use white lithium grease.
