Two problems here: First, a crappy design by Ford that routes the high current for the fog lights thru the light switch instead of using a relay like they should have. Second, the light switch has an internal circuit breaker (cycling type) for the headlight circuit that gets weak with age and cycles on and off with high current loads.

Several solutions: Best one: replace the light switch, and rewire the fog lights so they are turned on by a relay, which greatly reduces the current flowing thru the light switch. Next best: Rewire the fog lights so they are turned on by a relay, which greatly reduces the current flowing thru the light switch, but keep the old light switch with its old, weak circuit breaker. Worst: just replace the light switch, and wait for the problem to happen again.

There is one more solution that Jeff didn't mention. Get new headlight lenses so you don't have to use the fog lights [Image: biggrin.gif]

dimmer switch will cause what you are talking about, I've had to replace the dimmer switch (on the column) on both TCs that I've owned. Same exact symptoms as you describe, and it fixed it both times.
The other guys didn't mention though, the fog lights aren't supposed to work with your bright lights on. I'm not positive, but I don't think they do on any type of vehicle. Can anyone oppose this?

Kev, I think there's a law specifying that you can't have more than 4 forward-facing lights on your car. High beams count as four, probably because the law dates to when cars had two sealed-beam lights per side and the high beams turned all 4 on.
