Got my Gillis and K&N!

Is it best to start the Gillis at 4 threads showing? That is what the directions say but not sure if I trust them. Not sure how to know if boost goes above since gauge only goes to 15. I do not know what detonation would sound like (and never want to!) so I want to be cautious. The car is running great now! All new gaskets, plugs, wires, dist, timing/acces belts, tensioners, fuel pump/filter, pcv, etc were done last week. Any advice while attempting to do this on my own would be helpful. The car runs so great I am kinda scared to mess with it...but I am gonna since so many seem to love these two mods. Will these mods make the car throw any CELs? Thanks!

If it makes you feel better start with 6 threads showing and then slowly bump it up when you feel comfortable to do so. It is really easy to adjust boost pressure once the gillis is installed.

You really can't trust the factory boost gauge, they are known to be inaccurate. You would be better off installing an aftermarket boost gauge that goes up to 30 psi.

Neither of these mods will cause a CEL.

Yeah you will want an aftermarket boost gauge. I wouldn't worry too much about detonation. Since you don't know what detonation sounds like, just keep the knock sensor hooked up and don't turn the boost up over about 18 and you'll be fine. I've never heard of anyone having any problems by doing what the gillis directions say to do.

There is a very loud buzzer that comes on at 17 psi along with the check turbo light in the gauge cluster so it's hard to go way overboard without knowing it.

Thanks! I will look up a good gauge...I read here there is a 2 gauge cluster that works in a Mustang that also works well with the 87 TC.

Let me know what you think of the gauges, as i don't want to buy crap but don't want to spend a ton either. these seemed like the best middle-of-the-road deals. $150 for all of it seems decent.

Sorry! I guessed it would still remain there but I see they did not! Hoped it would work, but no luck grouping them together for all to see. The site is http://www.egauges.com/ and I am looking at Autometer Dual Gauge Pod ATM-10120 ($29.99), Autometer Engine Temp Gauge ATM-3432 ($69.99) and Autometer Boost/Vac Gauge ATM-3303 ($51.90). I searched quite a bit, and actually had a harder time finding the gauge pod, and saw it as much as $49.99. The gauges also, even on sale, ran from $69,99-89.99. I work nights in corrections so have all this downtime to search..
