Are Ford TFI modules interchangeable?

I'm having a problem that might be TFI-related. The thread is <a href="http://www2.turboford.org/nato/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001557.html">here</a>.

I can swipe an ignition module from my dad's broken 90 3.8 Sable, or borrow it out of his 90 2.9 Ranger or my 93 3.8 Cougar. Are they engine-specific or anything, or should I just be able to plug one of those in and see if it fixes my problem?

BTW--I looked up the part numbers for the TFI modules for the Fords I mentioned on wrenchead.com and they are slightly different. But that could be because of a mounting bracket or something too. I'm going to try the Sable's ignition coil tomorrow, I know it's good and is compatible.

yes, you can use the modules, what you should do is try and use the heat sink mount off the newer cars.
